This is a fantastic book! First, the designs and creations throghout the book are beautiful and full of details. The instructions are accurate and easy to follow. And finally, and most important to me personally, Jeff’s builds were just the kick in the pants I needed to start building with my own collection again. If you’re an adult fan of Lego, this book is worth owning for the aesthetics of his builds alone, but as I said, they’re also terrific pieces of inspiration. If you’re the parent of a lego fan, this book might well help extend that wonderfully creative time in your child’s life just a bit longer by giving them an example of the creations they can conjure up with more practice and time.

Cool book but, before I order/source pieces, I have to double check the counts. Several, in just the couple of buildings I've looked into, have been incorrect. Other than that, I love the designs and it's easy to substitute with pieces/colors that I already have.

I like the models used to illustrate different styles. I like th included instructions to build a subset of the models. I would like to see more examples and more techniques covered. Great book, albeit a little short for the price.

I got this book for my husband as a Christmas present. The book is amazing! The paper is nice and thick, coffee table book quality. The images are beautiful and the descriptions of the cities, the lore of how each city grew, and how to personalize the original designs make this book a fun read for someone who doesn't use Legos on the regular (that would be me). The book even gives great advice on how to aquire the necessary pieces to make your microcities!

An informative, quick read for someone newly diagnosed (like me) craving immediate answers about how to proceed. Got it after listening to Dr. Port on NPR's Fresh Air with Terry Gross. Read it in about two hours. There is nothing here that cannot be found online, from reputable sites like breastcancer.org, NIH, the Mayo clinic, and Susan Komen. But it is ideal for someone with zero background or understanding of breast cancer, and who may not be able to differentiate between good and questionable sources of information. There is a lot of myth out there, a lot of irresponsible people offering dangerous misinformation. Blogs and discussion boards on even reputable sites are full of bad advice (let alone scary crap the newly diagnosed does not need), as well as good. Dr. Port cuts through the nonsense, and tells you what you need to know. And she is very reassuring. My favorite point: Get a specialist. Get a surgeon who specializes in breast cancer surgery. They are everywhere, they don't cost any more, and it's worth it! After reading this, I put the book down, called my general surgeon and told him I was going to get a second opinion, and found a specialist who had done a fellowship in BC surgery and had been practicing her craft for ten years. She did an amazing job. I found her by googling the national breast cancer accreditation program, and chose my area. I loved this book, gave it 4 not 5 stars only because I would have liked more in-depth info.

I am two years post stage 2 breast cancer ( doing awesome) and recently purchased this newly published book to see if it had any information about the breast sparing Oncoplastic surgery of which I had from the doctor who pioneered this technique in the US; Dr. Melvin Silverstein (google his Youtube videos). I was beyond disappointed when I read her discouraging, poo-pooing attitude about the greatest surgical option for women with tumors <5cm. Let me explain...Oncoplastic surgery combines tumor removal surgery with breast conserving, nipple sparring, full reconstruction in ONE surgery!!! Dr. Port basically says (page116) that any breast surgery that has ANY amount of manipulation or delayed reconstruction is oncoplastic and we should not get to caught up in the hype! This is a huge disservice to women as I know for a fact that it is possible to have a 4.2cm tumor removed, (plus I had a 2 week dose of radiation delivered during surgery, IORT) and then the plastic surgeon steps in and performed full reconstruction. This involved doing a lift and repositioning of both nipples (mastoplexy)and placing small implants to restore shape and size back to a 34B. For large breasted women they do a reduction and mastoplexy. The goal is to have the woman wake up from breast cancer surgery looking as good as if not BETTER than before. My surgery took 5 hours, I had no bruising, no drains and woke up with 2 beautiful breasts that were symmetrical. Full sensation was restored on both sides within 9 months. She also does not mention any of the day to day side affects of Tamoxifen ( like they don't exist!) and she basically discounts complementary and alternative medicine. Also there was no mention of the new MammaPrint test that compares your tumor against 70 other genome types for risk of re-occurance. I was deemed LOW risk & was not prescribed chemo due to those results. Pay attention ladies and read up about Oncoplastic Surgery and IORT that will be the standard level of care for early stage breast cancer. Man I am glad that all that segregation BS disappeared in my lifetime! I saw Satchel once do a pitching exhibition during a Globetrotters' game, where he even pitched a basketball with deadly accuracy and speed. In this book you can learn about the Negro Leagues (there were two) and some of the players in them. Satchel, of course, who did go on to "the show" eventually, but also greats such as Josh Gibson, who never did make it because he died ten months before Jackie Robinson was called. That is a terrible shame. Josh and Satch were friends, and also rivals in baseball. The meeting recounted in this book is so outrageous that, frankly, it could never happen in major league ball. But it really did happen, and I wish *I* could travel back in time because I'd love to see it! You won't believe how Satch messed with Josh's mind. Thing is, according to the author, the dialogue all comes from Satchel's own notes, so all I can saw is "Wow!" Buy it, you'll like it.

My fifth grade boys LOVE this series. I can't keep them on the shelf and they are creating waiting lists for each one. Highly recommend for reluctant readers who like sports.

Great series. Loved all the books in this series. Through listening and reading these books, it has greatly helped my students in their overall language arts skills.

I bought this for my son to read during the summer reading months. He is 8 years old and loved reading about another great African American baseball player.

My students love Dan Gutman books and love this series of Historic Fiction! They are mostly read by the boys in my classroom, but there are always a few girls that will pick them up. Dan Gutman books are great!

My 12 year old son refuses to read much of anything these days. He is very into sports and I discovered this book is one that he WANTED to read. The book is apparently quite exciting and engaging because he actually asked me for the others in the series!I only wish there were more!

These books are smart and engaging, especially in a house where everyone is obsessed with baseball! My kids enjoyed them and learned a lot.
