The title is a little misleading. This is a book that you will want to have in your ruck on any trip. As we all know, no one sets out to be in a survival situation, and they are NO fun. This book has all of the general necessities that a person would use to survive in almost every type of climate. It is now a permanent fixture in my ruck. The seller shipped right away and I got the book almost immediately. His price was more than fair, and he did just as he said he would. Use him, and you will be happy with your purchase and his service.

This book is great. This is the second general survival book I have read. The 1st was the "SAS Survival Handbook". I would have to say this book may be even better than the SAS book. And I would say for sure it is more enjoyable to read. The author writes in a very light hearted manner but still, of course, implies the seriousness of all the concepts. The material is up to date and and very practical. Of course with almost any survival books there are some common sense aspects. But the author knows this an doesn't waste time explaining common sense info in depth and when not needed. The info in the book is very useful and practical and it has plenty of not so common knowledge aspects of wilderness survival. This is a must have for anyone who wants to educate themselves about surviving out there in the wild.

Great book for all around survival. It's not location specific but it will do for the Unites States but if you are looking for Asian Jungle survival tips you need to purchase another book. It's a quality book with many different tips and ideas, even tips for the seasoned survivalist. If you are planning a week trip or longer, if you are responsible for others like children or older adults, or you are a survival enthusiast - this is a great book. Great gift for those you know that enjoy hiking or backpacking. Or the outdoors in general.

I read this years ago when it was first published, and I'm now reading the series out loud with my son. He's 15 and it has been fun to read together and then talk about what we have read. The sci fi backdrop is interesting, but what stands out is that people are still human, and family relationships are still human, even 40 million years in the future after millennia of genetic manipulation. It's fascinating to watch them struggle with their moral dilemmas and interpersonal conflicts, and see how a seemingly insignificant series of choices can lead to very positive or negative outcomes over time.

The storyline is relatively decent. Not as great as the Xenocide/Ender universe, but pretty good.Other than claiming human civilization is only 10k yrs old, most of the universe in this series is fairly consistent with itself and with possibility. (I guess that's what we get for another religious exodus/diaspora derived work, but it still frustrated me that it ignores recorded history AND implies we could have lightspeed travel at almost any time now.)The characters are fairly well developed, and overall it flows fairly easily.The problem I have is that there are OCR errors all through these books which is an unacceptable editing quality for any format of book. Also, the maps and similar front matter are not high enough resolution to pick out all of the details from the original graphics.These limitations come across as disrespectful to the author and to the audience.

I enjoyed reading the closure of the conflicts in the family, though in contrast with the first two books in the series, sometimes the psychological tension and even the thinking seemed hurried and overwrought...enough words, but not as well thought out and at times seriously melodramatic and even some continuity errors. Unusual for Card. Still, it gave satisfying closure to several conflicts.The other problem was that the Kindle version seems to have been physically scanned from a paper copy. Many words were similar to what was obviously in the original manuscript. You could figure it out in every case.However, when the publisher is charging as much for an electronic copy as for the paper book (saving themselves all the printing, binding and distribution costs and greatly increasing their profit margin), they ought to at least put in the editing to get the wording correct.Poor form, McMillan!

I love the character development and how all the relationships play out throughout this series. The first three books are my favorite. This is my favorite science fiction series. I think that books 1 and 2 are a little bit stronger than the rest of the series, but I really did enjoy this one too. I long for the power to see the relationships between people as strings like a couple of the characters can in this series, what an interesting insight into human relationships

It might just be my age catching up with me. When I was young I actually liked what I read from Orson Scott Card. Now as I read his books I find my self bored and disinterested. This series, which I have now read 4 out of the 5, is for me, complete *#$@. Progress of the story was the most predictable story I've read since Dick and Jane (maybe that gives you an idea of how old I am). I will not even bother reading book 5. Which is saying a lot, because the only reason I forced myself to read into book 4 was I accidently bought book 5 first and felt I needed to read them all to justify the expense. However, 3/4 of the way through book 4 and I could stand it no longer. I read to enjoy myself and escape. Simple put, I couldn't do that with this series.

The author's work rates 5 stars but the number of typographical, grammatical, and other errors of the Kindle version make slow down the story at times, requiring re-reading passages in order to figure out the intended meaning. Card is a favorite author and although his various series involve the same themes of creation versus destruction, good vs. evil, the ways he presents those themes by creating new worlds populated by fascinating characters keeps his stories fresh.

It's great that someone's written a book about Feature Engineering and it contains a lot of interesting material. I also like that clear readable coding examples are included (Python), so that the reader can try at home.But, it feels unfinished. The book is pretty short and the set of topics seems more like what the authors were interested in than a survey of the field. The level of explanation varies from super-detailed to glossing over concepts and technical terms that most readers won't know.The biggest issue is that the graphics are mostly hand-drawn on some kind of tablet and look like they were scrawled out quickly. I've attached one example. As you can see, they didn't even bother to adjust the contrast. So, the images have a dull gray background. Disappointing that O'Reilly didn't take care of this for the authors.

A good reference book for those of us in the daily engagement of machine learning.

It mentions binning as an alternative but goes ahead with binary code. The authors argument is that "listening 10 times does not mean liking the song as much as someone who listens ,,20 times."In other words, if the user listened to a song at least once, then we count it as the user liking the song. This way, the model will not need to spend cycles on predicting the minute differences between the raw counts. The binary target is a simple and robust measure of user preference.". There are many ways to deal with possible non-proportional effects. Going to a 1 treats someone who tried a song and did not like it the same as someone who listens daily!I would love a good book on this topic for my students, but this is not it..

I have read almost half of the book. It is amazingly useful, concrete and helpful. I can't stop finishing the book and then write my review and I would like to appreciate authors for their great work.Based on my experience the process of machine learning is 80% data wrangling, cleaning, feature engineering,... and 20% running the model or ML algorithm. This book aims for the first 80%.

I’ve read the pre-release version on safari’s books. Excellently written and great examples. I thoroughly enjoyed the initial chapters on transforming input data.

I want to start off by saying that I have never read any type of Manga or comic type book. So I don't know all the correct words or whatever. But I will say that I loved reading this. Clockwork Angel is one of my all time favorite books. I have re-read and listened to the audiobook so many times. I wanted to try something else, so I picked this up. I liked it so much I have already ordered the rest of this series and I am looking for more Manga books to read.I highly recommended reading the book first. if you haven't, some things might get lost in translation. I didn't miss anything because I knew exactly what was being left out but I have read a few reviews that complained about that. So take that into consideration.

The Clockwork Angel graphic novel is a book that has sort of fluttered around the periphery of my awareness for awhile now, but overwhelmed with LIFE and reading commitments this year, it was a book that managed to slip through the cracks of my over-saturated TBR. And then I finished Clockwork Princess, and was doing my post-"Ohthefeels!" ritual that follows the end of any Cassandra Clare book which consists of trawling through the TID fanart that deviantART has to offer, when I was suddenly reminded that "Hey! There's a graphic novel! Lots and lots of Will, Jem & Tessa. I think I might want it. I think I might need it."I'm always a little apprehensive of seeing a beloved story come to life visually on paper or screen. What if the characters don't look like I imagined? What if the artist/actor/director doesn't grasp the subtleties and nuances of the characters and their relationships? What if they leave out or change vital pieces of the story? What if it's just done poorly? Will it forever change my mental image of the the way I imagined the world and the characters -- the way I look at the book?It's a risk. It might suck. It's inevitable. Then, that'll suck too. And maybe.So with all of those questions and fears hovering in the forefront of my mind, what'd I think of this graphic novel?That it was awesome. Sure, this version of the story is an abbreviated one, but I am impressed with how much of the story is crammed into 250+ pages, how much detail there is, how rich the character and relationship development is. I got to see with a new perspective where certain plot points had taken root, details I had missed, and tidbits I had forgotten.Also, another random observation I'll throw in for free. Being exposed to this story again helped me remember just how much interaction there was between Jem and Tessa in the first book. When I first read Clockwork Angel, I was so hung up on Will ("Aww....look how obviously and tragically tortured you are, and how you cover it up with such reprehensibly cruel behavior! Just let me love you!!!" *Elmyra hug*). I considered Jem to be a romantic foil - a distraction - to the greater love story of Will & Tessa, that I didn't really pay as much attention to Jem & Tessa's moments. They're quiet moments, but meaningful ones with a lot of depth."Oh, the feels!"Suffice it to say that reading the graphic novel makes me want to reread the original novels again now that I know things.Overall. Beautiful, gorgeous, and perfect, The Clockwork Angel graphic novel satisfied my craving to see the Infernal Devices world for myself and gave me the opportunity to live in it a little bit longer, because I'm still not quite ready to leave it just yet.

I have read the mortal instruments and infernal devices and expected to be disappointed. But I found this manga to be rather good. The art work was beautiful and most characters portrayed perfectly. Some details were askew but overall I loved it. I read in a comment that the drawing can at sometimes be "childish" but I need not see it to be so. This is because these drawings are chibi. I did not like how Henry was drawn and thought that even though Charlotte is small she should have looked older and the opposite for mortmain. He was a bit too old an ugly. I love love LOVED Jem! I never cared for will as much but I liked how they show his dark tortured side as well as his kind heart more than Cassy ever did in the first book. Even though this is in black and white the words make you see all the colors in the world of the infernal devices. Highly recommend.

I was really hoping that this book wouldn't ruin the original "Clockwork Angel" book, and I wasn't disappointed. The manga contains the entire novel, which was a huge plus for me, as I didn't want to have to buy several manga novels for one book. There were a few historical notes (The way Jessamine and Tessa wear their hair, for example) that were incorrect, but I'm a major history buff. Also, a few small notes of the book were incorrect (Like Sophie's hair color), but those weren't distracting from the beautiful style of how it was drawn. I wish that certain parts were in the novel (such as when Henry said, "Will! She Bit me!"), but they are not important to the story, so I can understand why they were cut. Over all, this is a very beautifully drawn version of one of my favorite books, and I can't wait for when the manga of "Clockwork Prince" comes out!

Haunting artwork! I understood the story via the graphic novel with more clarity than in the actual book. Concise and dramatic!

I love the TID books so of course I was excited when I found out that they were also coming out in a graphic novel. However I would advise that you pick one or the other. The reason being because I am a book person so I read the books first. And I was a little disappointed with the graphic novel it just doesn't give you the full experience. But if you are a graphic novel person then this would be perfect for you.

This is a fantastic graphic representation of the novel. I'm absolutely in love with it! The art is so beautiful and well done, everything from the character's expressions to the details of the setting, location, dress of each scene...it's just so beautifully done! I would, however, say that it's manga-style art so if you're not a fan of that you might not like this graphic novel as much as I have.They did a great job at shortening the novel for the purpose putting it in illustrated form, so for any first time readers of the story, they will be able to get the essence of the novel without missing on any of the details that make up this amazing story. For those that have already read the novel, this and the upcoming graphic novels are great companions to the books!
