About the Author

Robert Prest was born in 1949 and educated at Downside School. He obtained a flying scholarship and joined the RAF in 1968. After basic training on Jet Provosts and advanced training on Gnats and Hunters, he graduated from the Phantom OCU (Operational Conversion Unit) in 1971. His first operational posting was to 43 Squadron at Leuchars. He returned to Coningsby for the QWI (Qualified Weapons Instructor) course, after which he completed 3 years on the OCU staff, where his speciality was teaching Air Combat Tactics. Following tours with 92 and 23 Squadrons, he left the RAF in 1980. The next five years were spent flying Jaguars in Oman with SOAF (Sultan of Oman’s Air Force) and Nigeria (with British Aerospace Jaguar Training team). That marked the end of his military flying. Since then, he has pursued a civil aviation career with various airlines in the Middle and Far East, flying a variety of Boeing and Airbus aircraft, from the B737 and B767 to the A330/340 and B747, finally retiring on the B777. In retirement, he still maintains a passion for aviation, albeit in the slightly slower form of floatplanes.

As a former F4 tech who had spent a little time in the simulator, this was a fun book to read. The author holds little back about his time on the ground or in the air and his explanations make you feel like you were in the air with him.

Wonderfully written, a detailed account of an F-4 pilots love affair with a great aircraft, and it's use in the coldwar. As a former F-4 pilot I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

Author took the time to tell the reader what it's really like to be a fighter pilot. It's this kind of information a non pilot appreciates.

Good story of an RAF pilot flying F-4 Phantoms during the Cold War. Good insights into the way fighter pilots look at their job. Well written.

My husband (a former fighter pilot) enjoyed the book.

Unlike any other accounts I've read about, the author gets very technical, describing the minutest operations of the F-4 Phantom. The description of his flying experiences is great.

Dating from the Cold War era of the 70's and 80's, this book details the life and times of an RAF Phantom pilot. A very good read.

I am cajun and love to cook. I also love collecting cookbooks. I didn't think I would enjoy this particular book as much as we have but its seriously ~ its amazing!Super easy recipes for days when you don't feel like cooking but still want a good cajun meal. So far I have made the shrimp etouffee (a family fav), the jazzy jambalaya and the crabby chicken salad. The only bad part is there is no leftover after my family of 5 is done eating!Are there fancier creole recipes? Sure. That's not the point of this book. 5 minutes in the kitchen in the morning and by dinner time you have a great meal without all the fuss.

I was born in Louisiana, left Louisiana, came back to Louisiana cuz there ain't no place on earth like it! I am a south LA Bayou gal and this cookbook has some really good recipes. Yes, the titles are a little "kitschy" but here in the swamp, we're using to being made fun of! One reviewer said "not too many set and forget recipes". Not true. If that reviewer thinks these recipes require too much effort, then they would do well to stay away from "Slow-Cooker Revolution". These recipes are true to New Orleans/south Louisiana taste buds and don't have too many steps. The recipes are easily adjusted for individual seasonings/taste and the ingredients are authentic and easy to find in just about any good-sized grocery store, even out of state. I consider myself a fairly accomplished cook and this cookbook is a new favorite in my collection as I really, really love my slow cooker!

I'm thoroughly enjoying this cookbook and I'm gradually cooking my way through it. Everything I've tried so far has been tasty and my family has given it a thumbs up. I don't know if the dishes are better than their traditionally prepared counterparts in every situation, however, these are quick to prep, cook all day without any attention from me, and are ready at dinner time without any fuss. I cannot say the same for the traditionally cooked dishes that require hours at the stove. So I am a fan!

Some excellent recipes - New Orleans style recipes vary widely even for the same dish, but this is a great compilation.I haven't cooked all the recipes, but the ones I have are very good and if you are a slow cooker fanatic like me and you like Big Easy style food, you might like this cookbook

Having lived in New Orleans for some time, I enjoyed reading through this cookbook. (I haven't yet tried a lot of the recipes.)Pros: The pictures are big and beautiful. I like how they give a little New Orleans history with each recipe.Cons: A lot of the recipes seem like they are just regular recipes but with a rather annoying, gimmicky title to make them seem like a New Orleans dish. ("Canal Street Carrots", "French Quarter French Dip", "Lagniappe Spinach Dip", "Mardi Gras Meatballs", "Steamboat Stuffed Artichokes", etc.) I felt the content was just okay.HOWEVER: This book was worth buying JUST for the Zea's grits recipe. ("Calliope Corn Grits") Those who have lived in New Orleans will know of what I speak when I rave about Zea's grits, and this recipe tastes just like them, plus it's super easy because it's made in the crock pot. So I'm glad I bought it, just for that.

This was a Christmas gift for my husband. He is from New Orleans and specifically asked for this cookbook after he reviewed it on Amazon.com.We use it often and could not be more pleased with the end result each time. We highly recommend this cookbook.

Great gift for anyone who likes cooking and enjoys these classic dishes, but also wants to shortcut it and use the crockpot at times. Already bought two and want one for myself!

I already owned the Rick Steves & Lonely Planet Barcelona guide books, but decided to purchase this due to the extensive photos and recommendations from a friend. I'm so glad I did as this book gave us a much better visual of the areas, and was the book I carried around with me while touring. It also includes more sites, including minor ones in the area that the other books do not mention. By learning about these other sites, we were able to vary our walking routes a little and see some interesting sites we otherwise wouldn't have known existed. The street/area picture diagrams were so helpful. I also purchased the Rome version of this book, and again was so glad I did for the same reasons.On the flipside, I don't think the info was thorough enough to be the only guidebook to a city. It was the perfect companion to my Rick Steves book, but lacked the information about how to get tickets in advance, skip the long admission lines, and background info that Rick Steves gives. Rick Steves has very few photos, and doesn't include many of the extra sites around the major sites, so having both books was extremely helpful.

This travel guide was very well written with short, detailed information on a number of sights. It included hotel and restaurant recommendations, a survival guide with practical information and it also included a pull out map. The map was okay, but not as detailed as I would have liked. I did like the fact that when the map was folded there was an excellent easy to read map of the city metro system. Some of the other listings in the guide were related to shopping tips, a glossary of typical Catalan food, eating hours (meal times), entertainment information, music, film...etc. I actually used one of the restaurant recommendations and it was spot on. A great meal at around the price reflected in the guide. We also saw the Flamenco show (Tablao de Carmen) which was also recommended and it was fabulous. There are several show options and we chose the show with tapas menu. We were supposed to get five Tapas and sangria and all I can say is that the food just kept coming and when we finished a pitcher of sangria another was quickly brought to us. The meal was excellent and a great value. The Flamenco show itself was incredible - very professional with a live band and singers as well as three female and one male dancer.

DK Eyewitness Travel Guides are very useful. If I were rank them based on my use, I'd give them five stars; I use them because often a picture is worth 1000 words in terms of helping me understand where I want to put my tourist time. Then I use them again to remind me of locations when I am sorting through photographs of my trip. For those two purposes they excel. Some of the other sections on customs, holidays, language, food can be helpful as well.What you won't find in these guides, this one included, is the quaint little hotel with comfortable reasonably priced rooms and family welcome, nor the little out of the way restaurant, nor finally the last word in history and analysis of monuments.What I might wish for as the "ideal guide" is one with lots of pictures, Michelin Green Guide style rankings (*** = make an express trip, ** = make a detour to see, * = see if you're in the neighborhood), planned driving and walking itineraries, and then some Rough Guide or Routard style food and lodging recommendations.

I have the travel bug...big time.I'm not the type of person that loves to dig into articles to read about the places I will be visiting, so Eyewitness Travel Guides are perfect...I skim through each travel guide before I leave, and mark the places that I'd like to visit with a post-it note. In this case, as soon as I arrived in Barcelona, I read more about the places I was seeing.This book has a lot of great tips on the places to see in and around Barcelona. I found some great beaches and was very happy to get lost around Las Ramblas.I recommend grabbing this guide before your next trip to Barcelona...it isn't too heavy and it has all the maps you need in the front & back covers.

I love the DK Eyewitness Travel Guides...when time is short and one wants to focus a trip on the key factors this book is a great resource. The points are concise and clear. Lots of pictures, lots of suggestions. Best restaurants, hotels, sites to see in each part of the city. Very helpful!

We love the DK books. We're casual adventurers who don't do much in terms of tours, but rather prefer to immerse ourselves in the culture we are visiting. The DK books are a great way to do that in a safe way as it gives you the highlights of places, enough history to give you perspective and appreciation, solid recommendations as to food, hotels, etc., and excellent tips on cultural aspects for which we should be on the lookout. Easy to read maps. We did Barcelona with this book and the Top Ten and had a fantastic time.

I had been to Barcelona twice before buying this book to plan a trip with my mother. I planned the trip exclusively with this guidebook and we had a blast. The book had great information and beautiful pictures. It made it really easy to figure out what was in Barcelona and what we wanted to see. The maps and directions were extremely helpful. I don't think I got lost once, which is a big deal because I'm extremely terrible with directions and locations.

We used this beautiful Eyewitness Guide in Barcelona. It is not heavy and easily fit into my purse. In fact, we saw many tourists from a number of various countries walking with their Eyewitness Travel Guide in a plethora of languages. We wouldn't travel without it.
