This is a very good book. It covers the building and use of 18 navigational tools in a very clear and concise manner. The drawings are sufficient to guide you through the process. Having owned a complete wood working shop for over 20 years now, I find it to be a matter of simply acquiring the right materials and just doing it. First, as the author points out, one must be inclined to be interested in such implements of past exploration. I am indeed. Mr. Dennis Fisher, thank you for this great little book . I am planning the construction of my very own Back-Staff this moment. As a life long Spanish Treasure Hunter, I want to see how they did it. I'll leave all of my sophisticated gadgetry at home. If you never hear from me again, well, I suppose I didn't follow the plans as directed.

This paperback was not damaged during shipping. Just saying. On top of that, this book fuels my desire to build! I suppose it take 'a life-time to master' these instruments. The whole field of navigation is huge! I'm still glad I purchased this book. It's understandable. It opens doors to navigation. It opens doors to mathematics! I so wish my math teachers had started courses by introducing me to angles and arcs with something as tangible and useful as a tool that a sailor used to live by. And that we still can use! I wonder if I'd have understood trigonometry (did I spell it right?). In high school it was just a system that mathematicians used. That was pointless. But knowing folks actually had real-life reasons, like knowing pretty well where you are in the trackless waters, and that these reasons birthed the math, wow!

Great resource to have. Directions are well laid out, and easy to follow. Some great information on the origin and use of each instrument is also provided and adds context and intrigue. Using this book for an astronomy project in a high school Earth Science class. Students will pick one of the designs and use a 3-D printer to make the navigational tool.

Not great, but good.Basic black and white photographs would have been preferable to the cheesy drawings.On the plus side, the instructions and explanations are relatively clear.

He earned his MD degree from Texas Tech University School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society in his junior year. He then completed his ophthalmology residency training at Emory University, where he received the Outstanding Teaching Resident award while he served as Chief Resident in his final year. Dr. Randleman joined the Emory faculty and served as Assistant Residency Director for 2 years while also completing a fellowship in cornea/external disease, and refractive surgery at Emory University. In 2004, he was awarded the prestigious Claes Dohlman Society Award, which is given annually to only one individual in the United States for academic and surgical excellence in cornea and refractive surgery training. Since practicing and teaching at Emory, he has trained more than 80 physicians in cataract surgery, refractive surgery, and corneal transplantation.In 2007, Dr. Randleman was awarded the Secretariat Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) for special contributions to the field of ophthalmology. In 2010, he was presented the innagural Binkhorst Young Ophthalmologist Award from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS).In 2011, Dr. Randleman was awarded the Kritzinger Memorial Award from the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS). He was elected to the “135 Leading Ophthalmologists in America” listing by Becker’s ASC Review (Ambulatory Surgery Centers). Dr. Randleman was also named as a “Top Ophthalmologist in America” by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd since 2010 and he is named as one of the “Best Doctors in America” by US News & World Reports.Dr. Randleman has served as Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Refractive Surgery since 2010. He has authored more than 90 peer-reviewed publications in leading ophthalmology journals in addition to 15 book chapters on refractive surgery evaluation and management of complications, and he co-edited the book Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking with Farhad Hafezi, MD, PhD.

I didn't love the textbook (see textbook reviews) that went with this study guide, BUT the study guide was very helpful for me as a university student. As I said in the textbook review, every section wasn't written very well and kind of bounced all over the place as opposed to getting straight to the point and flowing. Several times, I had to go back and read the section to make sure I understood exactly what it wanted me to know and had to figure out what was just "noise" on my own. However, the study guide was very well done and utilized several techniques (i.e. matching, categorizing, completing sentences, case studies, optional "essays" <- as much as you want to write, labeling pictures, etc.) in order to better remember and understand the information. I really liked it and was able to obtain an "A" in the course.

I used this for a masters class in nursing. It was paired with the textbook and really helped me put it all together and organize the concepts more clearly in my brain. I thought the textbook was not written very well, very wordy without a lot of basic explanation. This study guide helped me quite a bit.

This book is really awful. I had to buy it for class, but I feel like I learned nothing from it. Kahn Academy taught me more advanced pathophysiology than this book. It almost makes concepts more difficult to learn. Rent it if you have to have it for class. You won't want to use it ever again.

I bought both the course book and the practice book to work on a beginners course in English. It has very practical content, and is sequenced nicely to get the necessary basics in (eg- the alphabet) but, at the same time, not patronise students (the alphabet is given in the middle of "how to introduce yourself/spell your name")It CLAIMS to be a self-stufy book, but unfortunately, this concept doesn't work. Any beginner studying alone might need instructions in their first language from a BOOK (it's a different approach in the classroom). This book has somewhat complex instructions and lessons in English.I recommend it as a guide for teachers who have beginners, but not for the student themselves.

I have been trying to find a book to help my boyfriend (whose native language is Spanish) learn English for a long time, and I am so happy that I finally came across 'English for Everyone'.Pros:- It has a logical progression through content- It teaches you vocabulary on a certain topic, teaches you a grammar topic and then has exercises combining the vocabulary and the grammar- It includes reading, writing, speaking and listening- It has lots of pictures and is very visually attractiveCons:- The book claims to be 'a complete self-study program', but I don't feel that a beginner in English could fully understand the content without the help of someone that could explain this to them in their native language. It is perfect for beginners who have the support of a teacher, friend or family member.

I loved this book. I am a new ESL teacher and this has been a great guide for my classes, for I was clueless about what to teach or where to start. It has great, simple excercises, and very easily explained too. I also bought their Grammar book to make my teaching more complete.

I'm teaching a Mexican woman English and using this book. It has great pictures of vocabulary words, good teaching and practice exercises. It has attractive colors and presentation. Most importantly, my student likes the book. A great buy for anyone teaching or learning ESL.
