I purchased this book prior to going to Alaska. All of the images were wonderful, and gave me a better idea of the images I can make in Alaska. On my ten day trip to the southern part of Alaska, I ended up shooting over 5000 images, and have realized that I have just scratched the surface of what we call Alaska. I am a fan of Art Wolfe, and enjoy viewing his images through his eyes. I would recommend this book to anyone researching Alaska and getting a better feel of what Alaska is all about.

This has really great unretouched photography. I really love Art Wolfe's work and will order more books in the future.

This is a beautiful book I bought for my wife as we anticipate our Alaskan cruise this summer.

Striking photographs of the landscape and wildlife of the Inside Passage through the seasons. Only 1 small page of introductory text, so if all you want is beautiful photos - this is your book. The size (10 x 7 inches) is a really nice format - not one of those huge ungainly coffee table books that won't fit on the shelf. After a cruise to Alaska, these images will be reminders of what you saw (and way better than the pictures you took), as well as some things you wish you had seen.

Wow, this book has some very nice photographs! I knew Alaska was beautiful, but so many other coffee table books were disappointing. This one is a little small for a coffee table book, but it makes up for it in beauty and variety of photos. Art Wolfe is an amazing photographer!

Well done - highly recommended to those looking for something fairly light, different and enjoyable. 4.5 stars.

Pretty standard action / adventure yarn . . . stereotypical / one dimensional characters, action (some believable, some not), decent pace, kept my interest until the end. I would have given another star if not for some noticeable editing mistakes, particularly in the latter half of the book where entire words are missing. I was also hoping that the strong female lead would actually be a strong female lead which happened occasionally but was offset too often by moments where the complete novice character saves the day because of his natural abilities as a heroic man. Also don't prefer the tired cliche in literature / movies where male lead characters get to be obnoxiously persistent in order to break down any woman's defenses, no matter how many times or how often she expresses disinterest.

What a great ride this book is! The hint of romance between Cassie andJake is mixed with lots of tension and anger between them as a thief and a gambler ultimately join to beat the bad guys. High stakes asset recovery gets Cassie in trouble with a billionaire hedge fund manager. High stakes poker puts Jake at odds wth a psychopathic bad loser. The chases keep the book moving and then then both groups of bad guys come after Jake and Cassie on the world's largest cruise ship.My biggest criticism was the poor proofreading that made me stop to find out what word was missing in order to make sense in the sentence. However, the plot was so strong that it was pretty easy to figure out. Hopefully, that will be remedied in the next book, which I have already pre-ordered.

This could have been a 5-star rating. Except for two points: 1) There were too many loose threads left hanging in the storyline, and 2) The text abounded with missing words, especially the name officials the ship for the last half of the book. I realize that this was co-authored, and it's obvious that the second author didn't have the name when that part was being written. But not going back and including it was totally a rush to publication amd inexcusable. A simple proofing would have taken care offering these missing words and ship's name. Or rather, the lack thereof. As far as the missing pieces being tied up, just poorly coordinated writing or the desire to get the second book in print and sold. This was such a shame, because this book had one of the best character developments of any I have read for a long time. The storyline moved well, and the plot was fantastic. Other than the missing tie ups at the ending, I couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable book.

I really enjoyed the book and would have given it 4 stars except for the many grammatical errors in this book. I don't know who edited the book, but they should be fired. I have read other people's reports about this, but I guess I have been lucky as this is the first time I have read a book with so many mistakes. e.g. Instead of using the name of the ship, several times there was a question mark (?). I got it, but was offended by the lack of pride in the work of two supposedly well known distinguished authors.However, the book was entertaining, a fast, fun read with several surprises. Although a little far fetched, it was fun to read about the female lead in the book and how accomplished she was in everything she did. Worth the read if you can live with the horrible editing. I would also suggest the two authors take a little more pride in what they publish. I am sure its hard enough to write a book and then have it ruined by shoddy editing.

I totally enjoyed this book. It’s got two very likable protagonists, some really bad guys & gal, witty bantering, an engaging story, and a great ending.One protagonist is a male, white, never shot a gun, poker champ. The other is a female, black, highly skilled, asset recovery expert and azz-kicker. For different reasons, they each attempt to relieve a wealthy hedge fund manager of some of his assets and soon find their paths cross as they try to outwit the bad guys. The tone is mostly light, though there are a few serious moments because some serious crime occurs.There’s a bit of violence (not hugely graphic), no sex, and a few eff type of words. All part of a good, fun story that stretches from Buenos Aires to Casablanca.

I am a huge fan of audio books with great stories and great readers. I love this dramatization of the Jane Austen novels. As they are dramatizations, they are not her writings verbatim. The recordings and characters are well done. The only thing I don't like is the packaging of the CDs. They are all on one post and my post actually arrived broken. The entertainment and listening pleasure exceeds this small inconvenience.

A great way to get the complete collection of Jane Austen's work. Even if you've read the works, this is a joy to listen to and is a great aid for those who don't like reading or who might struggle with comprehension. And again, you'll find may familiar voices and talents.

Really good actors and staging. Love it! Great stories and it's long, so lots of content to enjoy.

Any Jane Austen fan would love this collection. A single box holds all the discs for the dramatization of Austen's six novels. Because the most likely person to purchase this collection is a Janeite, I'll spare any description of the stories and focus the review on the quality instead. The dramatizations are enjoyable. For anyone who would like an entertaining, light-hearted commute, pop these discs in. They're great to fall asleep to as well. The only minor complaint I have is that the box is not particularly practical. It holds all the discs in one singular stem. So in order to pick the novel you want to listen to, you have to pull out all the discs that sit on top of it. It's not convenient to have to do that. If this doesn't bother you, then there really isn't a downside to purchasing this.

Really well done. Fabulous actors narrating. Can't wait to drive! I've given two as gifts because I liked mine so much.

This is a fabulous resource for those who love Jane Austen's books! I have greatly enjoyed listening to these dramatizations of her books! I would HIGHLY recommend this! And the discs/box came in excellent, brand-new condition.

Love listening to my favorite stories in the car. The narrating and actors are superb.

Excepting Pride and Prejudice (which is a shame, because it's my favorite) I loved the dramatization. I think Mansfield Park was my favorite.

Daisy Mouse wants to join the resistance but Thunder just laughs at her and considers even eating her. She pleads with him to let her go for one day she may be able to help him. Though, laughing at the idea Thunder lets her go. Then the Zurg forces capture Thunder and put him in a impenetrable prison. It seems all hope is lost, or is it?A very imaginative scifi retelling of Aesop's Lion and the Mouse fable that probably will resonate more with modern middle graders than the original. It's a very entertaining read. Highly recommended to those covering fables, scifi fans, and reluctant readers.Notes on content: No language issues or sexual content. There's fighting over the planet, but this is kept non-graphic.

Once I settled in to Maggie O’Farrell’s memoir I AM, I AM, I AM: SEVENTEEN BRUSHES WITH DEATH about her near misses with death, I realized that each experience was so much more than a story about how she came close to dying. O’Farrell captures these varied near misses, if you will, but with a twist. She portrays a powerful way of looking not just at death, but at precious life.She has an ability to mold extremely intense events, some horrific, others so instantaneous, you are left wondering how she survived all the while remembering such vivid details without shriveling up and well, wanting to die.Not that any of O’Farrell’s incidents are any less daunting than the next, but one left quite an impression on me. Monumental tears gave way and I struggled to get through as she recalled this time in her life.While not everyone has the same shared experiences, once we realize that we do have similar emotions, I think our ability to have compassion for one another is strengthened.

A beautiful, tender, vulnerable memoir. It made me remember moments when I too could have been in the path of disaster, and how I've just brushed them aside. O'Farrell's writing is wonderful, crisp; her eye astute to the details and delights around her.

I admit I was a tad apprehensive, initially, re reading this book ... I was very pleasantly surprised! Although the author describes her many near death experiences, it is not at all maudlin or misery making. Rather, it is an insight into the author's life and a salient reminder of all the very small moments and the 'what-if' experiences which occur regularly as we go about our daily lives. It served as yet another reminder to me to be appreciative of our blessings, savour the moments, and not get bogged down by inconsequential stuff.

I Am, I Am, I Am is Maggie O’Farrell’s astonishing memoir of the near-death experiences that have punctuated and defined her life. The childhood illness that left her bedridden for a year, which she was not expected to survive. A teenage yearning to escape that nearly ended in disaster. An encounter with a disturbed man on a remote path. And, most terrifying of all, an ongoing, daily struggle to protect her daughter–for whom this book was written–from a condition that leaves her unimaginably vulnerable to life’s myriad dangers. Seventeen discrete encounters with Maggie at different ages, in different locations, reveal a whole life in a series of tense, visceral snapshots. In taut prose that vibrates with electricity and restrained emotion, O’Farrell captures the perils running just beneath the surface, and illuminates the preciousness, beauty, and mysteries of life itself.My Thoughts: From a brilliant writer comes this beautiful memoir that kept me turning pages and astonished at everything coming forth. I Am, I Am, I Am: Seventeen Brushes with Death reads like fiction, as surely these life moments could not possibly be real.The author’s own near misses with death are revealed in an anecdotal style, going back and forth in time in a non-linear fashion, and each sequence of events reveals the intensity of those moments in an unforgettable narrative.From grave illnesses to dreadful accidents, from challenges in her pregnancies to the horrific life-threatening condition of one of her daughters, we are astounded by the overwhelming odds she has faced. But instead of a “poor me” reaction, she gives us her gratitude and the overwhelming fortune she has had to still be alive, and for her daughter to have come through these experiences, also a survivor.A memorable story that reminds us of all of life’s blessings, even in the face of adversities. 5 stars.

I quite enjoyed reading this book, although after a few tales of how Maggie O'Farrell survived brushes with death I began to get a bit bored - after all, the outcome was never in doubt as she wouldn't have been around to write the book if she hadn't survived.She saved the best 'til last, though. The story of how her cerebellum was hit by a virus one fine morning and her huge struggle - aided and abetted by parents, doctors, physios and many ordinary people - to survive something so horrendous and unexpected was riveting. The story of her daughter's lack of the wherewithal to fight off allergies of all descriptions is equally absorbing.So, I think Maggie O'Farrell writes well, and I'll read more of her books and I wish her well and hope she doesn't have any more brushes with death, until she's much older at least!

I have read three of her novels and count Maggie O’Farrell as one of my favorite writers and I know I have to get to those that I haven’t read. This memoir is as beautifully written as her novels. O’Farrell shares with us some very personal experiences, memories of times in her life when she was in danger, close to death. As in her novels, she had me feeling and thinking about the complexities of life, sometimes the danger that lies near all of us. While she writes about things that happened to her, some of these are things that others can relate to - miscarriages, the heartbreaking emotional difficulty of acceptance and understanding, illness that impacts your life, a child’s illness, and some things that most of us have not likely experienced - being mugged at knifepoint, the impending danger of being stopped by a stranger in a deserted road. We see a vulnerability that we can recognize in ourselves as she reveals so much of her feelings and thought processes. All of this making me so very glad that she had this moment:“And, one night, in the monsoon season, when the rain is a constant, lulling hum outside the windows, when our clothes, the windows, the pictures are growing mould in the humidity and it’s too hot to sleep, when I have been reading subversive versions of European folktales, I get the urge to put down some words. I get up, find a pencil, open an exercise book at the table and as Anton sleeps, I start to write.”

Alex Gorelik is CTO and founder of Waterline Data and the founder of three startups.
