Every time I've picked up Jane's book I've shed a few tears of joy. I felt that someone can relate. I am not the cancer patient but the care giver to my best friend and the love of my life. I'm the rock, the researcher, the planner, the one with the solutions but I was scared and this book pacified my doubts. Before Jane's book I was partially winging it and crossing my fingers and praying that all of what I've lined up for my husband will work. I pressed the "I believe" button regarding metabolic theory but Jane's book tied it all nicely for me. It plugged the missing holes how to starve it and most importantly what to use and how to do it. I felt so alone and neurotic scouring through scientific studies and spending countless hours researching. Jane did the research for you. You have to do some legwork but provides a clear roadmap.The despair, the anger, the hope, the plan, the future; it's all in this book. Every cancer patient, care-giver, a loved one should read this. Not only will it help you with a plan, it helps your soul. You will be able to relate with her stories. After reading it, I said to my husband, if Jane (as if I know her) can beat her cancer with 12 weeks to live, we should be able to beat yours.

This book should be required reading for anyone diagnosed with cancer, for family members, and for anyone who wants to have a better understanding of prevention. There's a real tendency to get dogmatic with cancer treatment and to stick with "one camp" of therapy - whether the "traditional camp" (surgery, chemo, radiation) or "naturopathic camp" (strictly "natural" means of healing). I think it's a mistake. You need to employ all you can (a guided integrative approach) to give your body the best chance at complete restoration and healing, and this takes wisdom, sleuthing, some bravery, and now - this excellent book by Jane McLelland. There is no one-size-fits-all treatment for cancer, it's completely bio-individual; and incredibly, there is now research to support an integrative approach to cancer treatment - and in some cases, the repurposing of drugs not initially intended to treat cancer - to target cancer from 360 degrees. This book has been so helpful for me, as I support my own family through cancer diagnoses.

I'm working my way through the book so probably should come back and add more when I'm done. So far totally impressed. I'm in the process of researching integrative approaches for a beloved sick family member who knows very little of these approaches for her cancer. She's completely open but I want to preview the books prior to sending them her way. This book is DEFINITELY going her way.My only wish was that it was also available in book format in the US. However I believe Jane Mclelland has said that format is coming soon. There's way too much information to pull it all out reading online. It's a book I need to highlight, make margin notes and underline. For me kindle just doesn't cut it with a book of this dept. I'll be re-ordering the hardback copy as soon as I see it here.Added - I've finished the book and I can't recommend it highly enough. I'm in awe over Jane's shear tenacity to research her own cancer and fight her way to a protocol done mostly her way. In the first part of the book she tells her story and how she figured out what drug to add in when. At the end she has an extensive explanation of what to do for each step of the way particularly with cancer that's metasized. (Jane was at stage 4 and had her cancer return twice. Each time she had to relook at her protocols).Nothing she did was outrageously expensive or required trips to overseas cancer clinics. She devised a coctail protocol for herself that used mostly herbs, IV vitamin C and common drugs used off-label (metformin and aspirin were two of them). Most of the drugs were easily available with a prescription (getting the script was often her most difficult part). Many of these drugs recently are being investigated as adjudvants in cancer treatments.Again the end of the book lays out very detailed plans on how and what to do to including a low inflammatory/glycemic diet. All of what she did is designed to work with regular oncology treatments. And all of it obtainable with some simple scripts, a willing doctor and hard work.

I have cancer. I have bought several books since being diagnosed that I hoped would help or maybe even give me THE answer. I have found some good advice that I’m trying to incorporate. However this book, and the author, is giving me real hope. It makes sense. It’s all about battling cancer from all fronts, and cutting off it’s fuel which is not just sugar. I’m lucky in the sense that I am able to dive into trying to make my body as healthy as possible while I wait for my leukemia to advance. Can I stop that from happening? I don’t know but I’m going to try. This book is not an alternative treatment – it does not take the place of actual cancer treatment if you need it. The information within this book is meant to work with everything that you do – treatment, food, exercise, supplements, along with re-purposed drugs that will metabolically target the cancer cells and hopefully help starve them......to death. I recommend this book and it’s very caring author 100%.

This book is great for all the different stitches for each type of embroidery. The major fault being that overhead spiral thar makes you have to turn the entire book to read it. However, the worst fault is the fact that they do NOT show the stitch on an embroidered piece. You have no idea what it is supposed to look like... how the whole thing should be set out. (There is a microscopic picture less than one inch square with little color definition that fails to accomplish its purpose). I love having a picture to give me bigger ideas for my pieces. It just becomes tedious to shuffle books between pictures and instructions. Can't one book have it all?

This is a guide to embroidery stitches, specifically aimed at crazy-quilters. It's a very small book---just a guess, I'd say no more than four by five inches. But it's spiral bound and it stands on its own, so you can prop it up beside you while you're embroidering, in order to see how to execute the stitches you're doing. The directions are simple and easy to understand, fully illustrated, and directions are given for both left and right-handed folks!It isn't an exhaustive source for all embroidery stitches, but it has all of the basics, plus many I'd never heard of before. Plenty are designed to be worked in a straight line, in order to cover the seams of your crazy-quilt. Others are meant to fill in the gaps. There's even a section at the end that shows examples of how to combine different stitches with breathtaking results! Most of the embroidery stitches are for use with regular floss, but a few are for silk ribbon, and a few are for wool thread.Last year, I made a crazy-quilt pincushion, but since I'm not an expert on embroidery, it was rather plain-looking. Thanks to this book, I finally produced a crazy-quilt piece that's richly embroidered and actually LOOKS like a proper crazy-quilt! I couldn't be happier.Five stars and highly recommended to anyone who wants to learn basic embroidery, or embroidery for crazy-quilting.

One of the few books that show left handed embroidery stitches. View the look inside and you will see all the stitches in this book and towards the end is a sample page that shows left hand on one side, right on the other. This is a stand up book so you can have it open in front of you when you are trying to work the stitch. This book is smaller in size so that it easily fits in the sewing box. Its a bit larger than 1/2 of a sheet of paper. Excellent book!

I bought this book because several girls in my sewing class had copies. There are lots of stitches covered and what is nice it has illustrations for left handed stitchers. The small book has a binder for spine so easy to fold back and stand up while you practice your embroidery. Fits into your purse as well. A handy guide.

This is a handy little book to have. It's 192 pages of excellent info . The instructions are clear drawings ,(with left & right handed pictures) and a little thumbnail of the actual stitch on fabric. The only drawback is with some of the pictures using small stitches ,you can't see the detail very good.Oh well ,I can live with that. Everything is explained really well ,even for a beginner like me. I'm dying to do every stitch in there ! It even shows some ribbon embroidery. This book is worth it's weight in gold.

The spiral binding makes for easy use when following the stitches which are all listed in alphabetical picture index in the front of the book, along with the stitch you will find the page number right by it. Very easy pattern directions. You can also set the book up on the small easel for ease of reading while you sew. Nice book, well worth the money, especially for myself who is just getting back into embroidery and learning to "crazy quilt". May have to purchase another of Baker's lovely books.

I LOVE this little book. It's sturdy and well designed and loaded with embroidery stitches that have left and right handed instructions, one stitch to a page. It fits neatly into my basket and can be stood up. And the alphabetical stitch index at the beginning includes a miniature of each stitch for easy reference. Thank you Judith for an indispensable tool!

The book is full of many kinds of stitches, with good, clear how-to diagrams. For that reason it is a great resource book and I would give it 4 stars for content. However, the design layout for the book does not flow--it's neat that you can stand it up and flip the pages, but the direction of each page is the reverse of the next so you have to pick it up and turn it back and forth to read and follow the text or stitch sequence. Also, the photographs of the actual embroidered stitch is tinier than a postage stamp. I'd give the design no more than 2 stars, hence my 3-star rating.

I have not finished it yet, however I tried TeamTreehouse and Lynda before and I think this book is a better resource. I have learned so much more through the book because it requires you to do more. Plus, because I'm reading and coding, I screw up more, which is wonderful. I learn so much about the language while debugging my mistakes in their tutorial programs.The negative is that it needs an update now, since the release of Xcode 6. The "empty application" template which the book uses throughout is no longer available. You can google "Empty Application Xcode 6" on how to recreate this template.. It is not terribly difficult to download the empty application template and use it in Xcode 6.

A quick summary: The quality of the chapters in this edition is once again top notch. You'll learn beginning, intermediate and some advanced topics in the world of iOS development. Trying to go into deep Xcode and iOS development without having gone through at least another book dedicated just to objective-c is going to find you frustrated, like I was, many times trying to learn how to make an iOS app only picking up pieces of the underlying language! This book is 2 chapters of dedicated Objective-C and 26 Chapters of iOS/XCode/UIKit framework.Background about me: I have 10 years of C++, 6 years of .NET, 2 years of Python, and 2 months of Objective-C experience going into this book.I ordered the kindle version of this book, and it is great reading on the Mac. The book recommends that you read on a Mac due to the way their code looks on a Kindle/Kindle Fire. I own a Kindle Fire and agree. Besides, you should be doing *ALL* the apps that the book lays out for you, and there are many! So reading on a Mac and then coding their examples on a Mac is a good way to read this book.PROS:- Walks you through several iOS application examples.- Teaches you how to use Xcode by example.- Goes in depth into standards.- Provides resources to use in your applications- Explains *at the right time* why things are done a certain way.CONS:- Does have an assumption that you know at least C, but I'll go out on a limb and say you should have at least read a book on Objective-C as well.Recommended Readings:The book recommends that if you want an in-depth reading on Objective-C, this book is not for you. Thats understandable, this is the iOS Programming Book, not the Objective-C programming book. However, I think that having at least an Objective-C book under your belt going into this book is required. Here recommended books by the author and the book I read going into this:[AUTHOR Recommended] Objective-C Programming: The Big Nerd Ranch Guide (http://amzn.to/1kNNtM9)[MY Recommendation] Programming in Objective-C (http://amzn.to/1gUG7RP)Conclusions:This is the Xcode/iOS book that you will want to have under your belt to create really nice iOS applications. Have your Objective-C ready to go into this.

Like their Objective-C book I can't say enough how much I appreciate this iOS book from BNR:The book covers a very wide range of topics, providing people like me with knowledge and experience I really need. As they say, "we don't know what we don't know" which is very true for iOS: there is so very much to know. With this book I feel that I have the foundational tools and understanding I need to actually create an iOS app.I also appreciate the writing style and organization of information. The pattern is clear and provides sufficient depth. And as we progress through the book, they utilize our expanding knowledge - not having to provide quite so much detailed instruction on how to do things (like how to add a new NSObject subclass). I appreciated the fact that I could now do something "without training wheels" as I was learning new information.I also appreciate their online forums, where readers and authors have an interactive location to ask questions, learn from others, and investigate problems. After all, there is errata in anything, and the subject is complicated. The quantity of errata in the book is very low in my opinion, but it's reassuring to have a resource to check.I look forward to more books like this from Big Nerd Ranch.

I don't think it's possible to learn IOS programming with just one source of information. I've got piles of books, printed Apple documentation, subscriptions to training videos etc etc. Each of these things contributes in its own way. However, if I had to say which of these things have helped me the most in learning the groundwork, I would say1) This particular book (Big Nerd Ranch Guide) combined with:2) Simon Allardice's videos on Lynda.com (am I allowed to say that?) plus:3) Forging ahead and trying to write code using reference material (including other excellent books)These guys have a crystal ball - ok, they have experience - and seem to be able to predict what I'm going to need to know, before I realize it myself.Here's a story. I methodically (and even painfully) worked through about three quarters of the book and then got distracted trying to create a basic app. I got a bit stuck with my app. I searched through my reference stuff, read forums and inched ahead till my head was nearly done in. It was almost as a bit of a break that I started working through this book again, only to find solutions to some of my problems in the very next chapter! Crystal ball? (nah - experience, even better than a crystal ball!) Maybe I should have kept working through the book, but I think that we also need to go and "do" stuff in order for things to make sense.Another thing - the forum associated with this book is really useful.So, to summarise, I found this book to be an essential part of my learning and highly recommend it to others.
