The Guide to Postproduction for TV and Film: Managing the Process is an excellent resource for anyone working in the entertainment industry. I haven't been able to find another book that so effectively takes you through the nuts and bolts of post production, from scheduling all the way through to delivery. If you are an entertainment executive, a film student, or anywhere in between, this book will be an invaluable resource. I've been working in the film and television industry for twelve years and this book has helped me in jobs at two major television networks and in feature post production at several studios. The new edition provides accurate and up to date information and is the only book I've been able to find that adequately covers the film laboratory. The Guide is the one book I always have at my desk. I strongly recommend it.

Susan Spohr and Barbara Clarke have created nothing short of a post-production bible. BRAVISSIMO to them both!! I would not have survived the last year in my job without their brilliant book!!! Everything flows in a clear, concise way, bringing the reader visually into the post-production process. Read this book and keep it with you as a reference tool! Nice way to learn some business things, started to be outdated, but overall solid.

Arrived as expected.

I was suckered into buying this worthless book for a survey class I took on Post-Production for Film and Television. What I hoped would be an enabler to my education turned out to be a hurdle: the book is poorly organized, the concepts aren't clearly explained, and the entire text is fraught with spelling errors and grammatical mistakes. When the authors aren't clogging the text with jargon, they're giving you advice on how to do business in this industry. If you work in the industry, as I do now, this book won't tell you anything you don't know already. If you want to learn about the process, this book won't enlighten you. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this editorial disaster!

I had this as a textbook for a film class at UCLA. I used it mostly for the post-production process of the film itself, and found the writing extremely confusing. It seemed an excellent summary for people who already know the material, and who therefore don't need the book. If you don't know it all already, it was a poor explanation. I had to look everything up on the internet to figure out what they were saying.Part of the problem (certainly not all) stems from the use of ordinary words in unusual ways, in the film industry. We say "Film", for instance, when we mean the product, even if it's digitally recorded. Often it isn't film anymore, it's a disk or a cassette, or an external drive. But the writers of the book need to be aware of this in their descriptions.This should have been subjected to beta-readers -- people who don't already know the material, and who could point out areas of confusion. But apparently it was circulated to friends, also in the business, who were not able to put themselves into the position of a newcomer, and see it with new eyes.

Defintiely geared towards gradschool, not teens, but some good activities to help the child and parent look at what poses challenges and ways to address them.

I am a licensed clinical social worker who ordered this book to help me in the treatment of children with attention deficit disorder. I found this book to be extremely comprehensive and easy to use. I especially liked the ability to use the book both in session and as homework for my clients. The author included 14 downloadable audio meditations that were soothing and a pleasant addition to the book. In treating Adults I am often reminded of the difficulties they experienced as children maintaining focus, making friends and learning. This book helps the future generations to find their inner peace, obtain skills to focus and reduce impulsive behaviors. My favorite section is on “Using screen time in a healthy way”. Technology is often used ineffectively and has limited social interactions with children suffering from ADHD. This book covers a broad range of essential topics including healthy choices, academics and self-care. This book talks directly to the needs of the children I love this book and so will you.-Gregory Page LCSW

I've been using this book in my practice as a Clinical Social Worker. I've also recommended it to a number of clients. It is easy to use and helpful for parents too. I have found that the worksheets help parents understand how helpful and important it is to have routines and rituals, and the kids love to fill out the worksheets. It makes practicing relaxation skills fun for kids, which helps them practice them, before they are in need of deescalation. This book has all of the skills that I teach to kids and parents, but they are in one easy and reasonably priced package, which is hard to find. Most of the skills, I have learned while doing Evidence Based Practice work, so I know that they work.

This is a very readable, straightforward book with mindfulness exercises for kids with ADHD. It is organized into different sections (home, school, etc) so you can easily navigate to the most applicable exercises. I also liked that there were practical exercises included, such as cleaning out your backpack, since many ADHD kids struggle with organization. My only critique is that many of the exercises involve writing or drawing which a lot of kids with ADHD hate and/or don’t find relaxing. I thought the more physical or meditative exercises (like the Balancing Chips game on page 82 or the ‘Quieting Your Inner Circle’ exercise on page 85) might be more impactful in getting kids to practice mindfulness. I plan on using it with lower school students at our school.

Easy to use, straightforward and helpful book within the therapy setting. I appreciate the letters at the start of the book (one for children, one for parents, and one for the professional). Perhaps one of my favorite aspects of this book is how it is outlined. The headers at the tops of the pages are well outlined and easy to navigate especially if you’re short on time and need to find the topic you’re looking for. A surprising addition were links at the bottoms of pages so that you can listen to an audio recording of the activity! This book provides a straight forward and interactive way to address the difficulties children with ADHD face on a daily basis.

I am an art therapist who works with children with ADHD, as well as a person with ADHD myself. This workbook is an excellent tool for children to use individually with family support, but also an excellent resource for therapists. The book is just the beginning, as the activities include suggestions of things to do outside of therapy, and online resources such as guided meditations and printable worksheets. My clients have responded very well to the activities in this book, particularly as the offer many opportunities to make art, answer questions and practice experiential techniques. I am a licensed clinical social worker in private practice with children and families. I see many children struggling to sustain attention, whether the underlying cause is attention deficit or anxiety or preoccupation with family stresses. I particularly found the section on feelings, activity 10, to be helpful, because regardless of the cause of the inattention, children (and their adults!) need assistance in identifying feelings and how to manage them. Ideas for quieting one's mind and body are especially important to teach to children. This is a very helpful guide for parents and teachers who need practical strategies for assisting children in having greater focus.

Very user friendly book! I enjoy how it’s written for both kids and adults to use. The techniques are simple, yet highly effective. I used several techniques in sessions this week and had positive responses from kids and parents. An 8 year old especially liked the freeze dust game. The book is broken into 5 sections and each section has many helpful tools. Great addition to a therapists toolbox or family toolbox!

I've said it before and I'll say it again...each book is more exciting than the last!!! Although I have never been considered a religious person I have enjoyed every sentence that I have read so far. If you like adventure, you will enjoy this series.I really liked reading about the demonic locusts sent from hell by Apollyon (at least I am pretty sure that is his name; I do know Apollyon means "destroyer" and if I understand right, he is the devil himself). The description was enough to make you squirm!I will be moving on to "Assassins" immediately. I can't wait to see what comes next!!! I'm interested to see how Chloe and the rest of the group will manage to keep a young child safe; or if it is even possible during such trying times.

I jumped on board this series early...around the time NICOLAE was released...and read it from the first book forward. I had not previously been a fan of Jenkins' writing; his "Margo Mysteries" of the '80s left a lot to be desired and Frank Peretti was an all-out better read at the time. But with the LEFT BEHIND series, working with Tim LeHaye, not only has Jenkins found his "voice" for fiction, but this series stands head-and-shoulders above Peretti's most recent works. (THE PROPHET was okay, but that last one was a dog.) I'm happy to see the series is speeding up a bit, but more importantly, I'm overjoyed with the amount of action packed into APOLLYON. This was a great read, with the action driving the story forward at a faster clip. Although the first three books were great, to be honest I felt that SOUL HARVEST suffered from too much explaining of the backstory; given that most everyone has read all the books in the series, SOUL HARVEST felt like too much filler, not enough substance. Not so with APOLLYON. The backstory fill-ins are kept to a minimum and even though the length of the series is now projected to be lengthened by 5 books (to 12), it seems the authors are getting more than ever from their fictional realization of the Revelation timeline and how it would look if actually played out against a near-future, contemporary backdrop. To their credit, Nicolae continues to prove a complex, engaging villian. So many "tribulation" novels suffer from two-dimensional characterization of the anti-christ. What makes this series so engaging is the way they put a complex human face on evil. Inspired, no doubt, in no small part by contemporary political figures and their failings, the authors have enough skill to suggest the current occupant of the White House without making blantant comparisons. Keep up the good work, Tim and Jerry, and I'll keep reading!

I am loving this series. It is making me realise too just how easily we could be living in end times, it encourages me to watch and wait prayerfully. I know some people have made comments about other series being more biblically correct, but I haven't read those series and I find it quite scriptural. Am already reading the next book and am very pleased that there are a few more good reads awaiting me when I finish the current one.I am also enjoying being walked through Revelations - the mysterious and yet quite readable and in places flat out bizzare book of the bible, and being reminded of what is to come. Hope there is such thing as the Rapture... debate still rages in Christian circles and I don't have to be one of the ones living through it.

I have been purchasing the audio versions, which allow for me to listen while doing other things. They switched narrators so for a while it was difficult to know who was talking.

What can you say about a fiction book?I gave it 4 stars because it is fiction that is loosely based upon scripture. Makes interesting reading, especially when you look at what some of this current crazy so-called POTUS and his regime is/has been doing. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.The book I purchased was in excellent condition, complete with dust cover and library loan record card. There were no markings in the book, as near collectors quality as you can get without it being totally new.

I know there are a lot of people who are wondering how long this series can possibly go on, how many more books does this author have in him? Well, in my opinion, the more the merrier! I think the way he extends the plot and twists it is nothing short of amazing. I really feel like I'm there, and these characters are my friends and family. I think these books just keep getting more and more amazing. This series is awesome!

These are great books! Went through this one in a few days! I recommend them to everyone. TO Mr. Jenkins & Mr. La Haye: For us older readers, don't eliminate the recapping. When we wait something like 8 months between reading them, we forget who some of the characters are. I think if I were sitting down and reading the whole series in one sitting, the recapping wouldn't be needed. But since most readers are current, and we're waiting until the next book comes out, all that time goes by and we can't remember what the whole deal with Amanda was, or who the other Christian guy working with Carpathia was, a couple books ago, for example.....These are great books to read when going through hard times and not wanting to think too much about your present situation. Very uplifting! Thank you Mr. Jenkins and Mr. La Haye!!!! God Bless you!!

Apollyon is the first book in the whole Left Behind series that really kept my attention. The Witnesses show their fearful powers at the meeting in the stadium. The Witnesses interest me the most and they are talked about a lot in this fifth book. As the book progresses the fifth Trumpet Judgement is released. Scorpion like locusts are released to bite and sting non believers. The stings are so painful that men want to die, but are not able to commit suicide. This book is full of chases and excitement. it is the best yet in the series and I hope they continue to be this great.

This book is a compilation of two of Mary Beard’s speeches, although neither is an off the cuff discourse on the steps of wherever. The voice of authority is a social convention that can and must be changed, not just for the sake of women, or minorities, or the LGBT community, but to save us all and to create a more enlightened and equitable world.“How and why do the conventional definitions of ‘power’ (or for that matter of ‘knowledge’, ‘expertise’ and ‘authority’) that we carry round in our heads exclude women?” It’s a very good question, to be sure, but I’m not sure it’s the right one. The question, I believe, answers itself in that it suggests that power is currently what economists would call a zero sum game.It is, but it can’t be. At least not if we want to leave anything worthwhile for our children. Our social, political, and commercial conventions must be re-defined to be more inclusive both out of a restored sense of what is right and fair, as well as a recognition that we have created a collective world in which individualism—of any kind—must be subordinate to the collective good.If we do that, and walk away from the zero sum game of the past, perhaps we can move beyond the cultural bias and distortion that Beard so clearly and thoughtfully lays out here.Yes, I am a white man who has held positions of power (in my case commercial) for a long time. And I know exactly how I got to where I did. I dearly hope, however, that my own children, who happen to be daughters, will re-define those conventions so that their children, my offspring, of course, will rise above the imbalanced (power, wealth, etc.) mess we find ourselves in.One closing thought. Beard suggests that one structural change we need to make is “decoupling it [power] from public prestige.” She’s right. And building the conventions surrounding power around the collective good rather than the individual as warrior, entrepreneur, or political leader, will do just that—gender aside.A must read for all, particularly our children.

Mary Beard is a Professor at Cambridge in the UK, specializing in the study of the Greek and Roman classics. One of her most famous works is “SPQR – A History of Ancient Rome,” which has been on the Best Seller Lists. Regrettably, I have yet to read it, but hope to soon. Beard provides some perspective from the ancient world to reflect on the on-going issue of women’s access to power, which would hopefully include power over their own bodies. This work is a collection of two separate lectures that she has given: “The Public Voice of Women” and “Women in Power.”Of late, I’ve found myself referencing “The Odyssey” a lot, with the portrayal of the bad homecoming Odysseus experienced when he returned from Troy. Beard, in her first lecture, also draws a lesson from this work, specifically when the son of Odysseus and Penelope, Telemachus, essentially tells his mom to shut up, get back to the loom, ‘cause the men are speaking. And things have not changed much in two and a half millenniums, a point Beard underscores with a cartoon from “Punch,” in which Mrs. Triggs makes a point in a Board meeting, and the Chairman asks if another male would be willing to make the same point (with the idea that then it would be “heard.”) Beard goes on to ruminate on exactly what must occur for women to be “heard,” particularly in public, besides speech lessons to emulate a deep gravelly voice.In the second essay, Beard introduced me to “Herland,” by Charlotte Gilman, first published in 1915, about a land that contained only women, a marvelous utopia that was tidy and peaceful, and “even the cats had stopped killing the birds!” I had to chuckle, regrettably, as she documents the negative reactions, seemingly unconsciously, in the main steam media when a woman assumes a position of power, noting that it was called a “power grab.” Yes, women are making substantial progress in acquiring elective offices, and perhaps a better, and maybe fairer world will result. Yet there is definitely a backlash. I had not seen it before, but there was a cartoon of Trump as Perseus, who had decapitated Hillary Clinton, who was portrayed at Medusa. Wow!I’ve read my share of “feminist classics,” starting with Betty Frieden’s “The Feminine Mystique” in the ‘60’s, followed thereafter in 1970, by Simone de Beauvoir’s seminal work, “The Second Sex.” As with some other issues from back then (like no more war!), I really thought we’d be much further along in developing fair and equitable relations between men and women, involving power, and yes, changing the diapers. Two steps forward, and one step back, or is it the other way around, as Susan Faludi has argued in “Backlash”.Beard presents not a hint of what I would consider the next level of evolution: once one has power, and one is conscientious in its use, one finds it an utter relief to give it up and let someone else do it and concentrate on “smelling the roses” instead! Nonetheless, for Beard’s ability to use the classics to provide perspective on the on-going contemporary dilemmas involving women’s efforts to obtain fairer and more equitable relations (coupled with some male allies), she deserves 5-stars.

Smart, thoughtful and full of revealing insights....Mary Beard is a classicist whose wide-ranging mind and extensive knowledge brings a new perspective to much-discussed issues. She is brave enough to put herself on the line and offer suggestions for change. She presents the problems and issues without ever being snarky, and while the book varies little from the two lectures she gave (worth watching on YouTube), it's a pleasure to have them in print and readily accessible to study and contemplate.

This short book by British professor of classics at Cambridge University explains “just how deeply embedded in Western culture are the mechanisms that silence women, that refuse to take them seriously, and that sever them from the centres of power.” Going back to Homer’s Odysseus she notes Telemachus’ put-down of his mother, Penelope, and traces these behaviors up to the present day, including the recent experiences of Hillary Clinton and Angela Merkel.

This is a great, very quick read for people interested in how we got to where we are today and why our models of power and leadership have a long history of being designed in ways to keep women out.It’s short on solutions, which may bother some people, but Beard does a grate service in laying out the roots of our problems in clear and accessible language - which is a necessary first step.

This is a short but essential discussion about feminism, specifically, the way society silences women's voices; and the way society limits women's access to power. She uses the Odyssey as her first (ancient) example, noting that "When it comes to silencing women, Western culture has had thousands of years of practice."
