Sometimes a woman has to do what she needs to do. When her husband, the marshall, dies - she takes over as the Marshall.Adventure and then romance.

This was such a wonderful story to read. It had suspense, love, shooting and fights. The best part that it had a very clean Christian atmosphere. I loved the characters from the feisty Miss Marshall to the young runaway. I truly enjoyed reading about the Wild Wyoming.m

This book reminded me of shuffling a deck of cards together in that it was the perfect melding of a highly unlikely romance with a murderous conspiracy. The author fits these two dramas together in a perfectly knit story of love, survival, revenge, and redemption.Widow Danna Carpenter struggles as she inherits her role of town marshal from her murdered husband. City slicker Chas O'Grady is from a patrician Boston family and is hunting down cattle rustlers when he is overtaken by a stampede but rescued by Danna. Danna was a child bride, tough, primitive, illiterate but highly intelligent and totally unaware of her own femininity. Chas sees through all of that and this ultimate odd couple know they need each other to solve two terrible crimes that are somehow connected.Although innocent of any wrong-doing they are declared "compromised" during a snow storm tracking bank robbers together and are forced into a marriage by the town council. The approach/avoidance chemistry between these two is scintillating and smoldering. Can they solve a complicated murderous conspiracy that involves tragedies from both of their backgrounds before they end up murdered themselves? This mystery, artfully combined with a most unusual romance, had me drawn in from the very first page.

This is the first book that I've read by this author and I did enjoy the book. It was a good, clean, wholesome read. It also brought into light some good christian values without being preachy or overly "religious" in tone. I am a senior living on a fixed income and an avid reader. I do about 95% of my reading on my kindle. Kindle unlimited, our public library and free books have become my sources for reading material. Occasionally I will buy a 99¢ or $1.99 book - so I'm sad to say I won't be reading her second book in this series, but that is the only reason. Good luck in your future books.vjjohn.45@gmail.com

First, the bad. I read this on the Kindle edition, and it was not well edited for electonic reading; in particular, it didn't reopen to the last page read. Sorry, this was a big issue for me and rated one star down.Outside of that, however, it was a great read. The heroine was a unique character excelling in her nontraditional career. In many books, women in nontraditional careers are big feminists with a disdain for womanly activities. This always irritates me, because the mindset displays tremendous ignorance of what life was like 150 years ago and how difficult and important women's work was, especially in subsistance cultures as the frontier was. In this book, there were strong reasons for her behaviors and in her heart she did not disdain the skills she had never learned. Kudos to the author for this. The writing was smooth and professional. I appreciated that not all the bad guys smelled and had bad teeth; in real life, many crooks are well fed, respected people who are bent and it's refreshing to find this in a novel as well. While not as firmly set in place as novels of, for example, Linda Lael Miller or Jodi Thomas, the setting of eastern Wyoming was realistic. In some books, the location is drawn with such a broad brush that it could be nearly anywhere in the west, which I consider a flaw. Writers, at least take a road trip through the place you're writing about. Lacy Williams clearly was familiar with her setting.I think, all said, what I liked best about this is that it didn't remind me of another book. Between characterizations and plot twists, this was unique. Thanks, Ms. Williams!

There was a thread from beginning to end of this storyline, although it really wasn't revealed until the ending, the hustlers had tried to kill both Chas & Danna almost from page one. I thought that was an interesting bit of info so often left out for a reader. You had to like Chas, a detective of sorts, but certainly a "Greenhorn" compared to the expertise of Danna or "Miss Marshall." Danna most certainly was a Marshall for your town, able to track, shoot, catch & jail the bad guys in "her" town. This was in many ways the typical out west, small town "shootem up" western, but how long's it been since you've exposed yourself to one? Yes, the cowboy kisses the girl...but what a girl...She's the Marshall for goodness sake!!Well written..some typo glitches, but you can figure it out. Read & enjoy.

This is an historical romance that I thoroughly enjoyed! This takes place in Wyoming territory in 1889 where the town of Calvin has a female Marshall, Danna Carpenter. She was appointed to replace her husband when he died in the line of duty. Chas O’Grady is a detective from Boston investigating cattle rustlers as well as revenge on the man who killed his brother and his sister-in-law. The Marshall and Chas meet when the Marshall rescues him from being trampled by a stampede! Although he’s shocked to see a woman Marshall, he grows to admire her and soon becomes her deputy since he needs a job. This entertaining book has a good story line in addition to the love story between Danna and Chas. It has quite a bit of adventure which kept my interest and I liked both Danna and Chas. Danna’s dog, Wrong Tree, also added interest for me.
